'More needs to be done to stop march of Islamic State terrorists' By Leicester Mercury | Posted: September 08, 2014 A Kurdish community was out in force at the weekend calling for greater support for the armed resistance to Islamic State . Hundreds of people rallied in the city centre for a demonstration condemning the aggression and atrocities of Sunni Muslim extremists in Iraq and Syria. The demonstrators, including young children and pensioners, marched along Humberstone Gate to the Clock Tower on Saturday. Many wore traditional dress, shouting slogans and waving placards and Kurdish flags. Typical slogans read: "We expect more from the UK", "Islam is peace, not war" and "Peshmerga are our heroes", referring to Kurdish fighters.
